Main advantages of a residence permit in Latvia
There is no requirement to reside in Latvia for 183 days per year, if the foreigner does not apply for permanent residence
With a residence permit in Latvia it is possible to work, study or open a business in the country
Spouses receive a residence permit with no restrictions on working and conducting business in Latvia
The spouse of a residence permit holder, his/her minor children and persons under his/her guardianship may also obtain a residence permit
Children of residence permit holders are entitled to free medical treatment, kindergarten and school education
You can travel without a visa to all EU countries within the Schengen Area

There are currently three ways to apply for a residence permit:
- Using electronic signature in our system, signing documents remotely.
- Through the Latvian Consulate in the country of citizenship or permanent residence with further forwarding of documents to the Migration Service of Latvia. The term of delivery of documents from the Embassy to the Latvian Migration Service is up to 2-3 weeks, or
- We submit the documents directly to the Migration Service of Latvia by post. Such submission is possible if you are legally staying in one of the Schengen countries at the time of submission of documents, as evidenced by the Schengen entry stamp in your passport and provided you have the right to stay in the Schengen Area for at least 10 more business days.
- Consideration of the business plan - about 20 business days
- Consideration of documents for residence permit – 5 business days, 10 business days or 30 business days (the period of consideration can be extended up to 3.5 months for high-risk citizens)
- Visa D issue – 10 business days
- Obtaining a residence permit card in Latvia – 3 business days
- Company registration in Latvia – 1,5 weeks
Portuguese immigration officials, just like their other European counterparts, require an official proof of absence of criminal record from you. It's obtained from the countrye, where you spend the last 1+ year. Usually, it's requested from the federal government and needs to be apostilled and translated into English or Portuguese.

In Latvia, the startup visa is no longer issued without clear evidence that a business is operating successfully and has real demand in the market. Only verifiable financial data from your bank account showing consistent payments from real customers will be considered for the program
