These are the minimal amounts you would need to show to the consulate for your passive income. However, to increase your chances, we always advise to try to show higher figures

In addition to your passive income, you are expected to demonstrate "financial guarantees" in a form of savings account funds. The following a the minimal amounts for 2026:

NIF is a tax registration number that is required in Portugal for even some of the most basic daily routines, like making some major purchases, getting a local mobile number, getting a bank account, transferring money, or registering for pretty much anything.

An open account in a Portuguese bank is required of you. Your financial guarantees (savings, see above) need to be deposited into your Portuguese bank account prior to consulate submission.
- If you do not want to fly to Portugal in advance of your D7 visa application, we can open an account for you as your agents in one of the largest banks in Portugal. You will be able to transfer funds into your own Portuguese account remotely.
You are required to obtain a medical insurance with a certain coverage (€30,000 for a period of at least 6 months. After you get your residence, your no longer need to keep it as you will be covered by free government insurance.

Portugal requires an official background check document, issued by the FBI and apostilled by the State Department. Most criminal offenses that are not expunged from your record may disqualify you from getting your D7 visa and residence in Portugal. Your criminal record needs to be from the country where you've spent the past year. This only applies to those over 16 years of age.
- Important note: this is a two-step procedure that may take up to 4 months. First, your fingerprints need to be taken and sent over to the FBI. After you receive report by email, it needs to be sent to the State Department for an apostille, and this step takes up to 12 weeks.
